This Week we are pleased to present the concept of Jastrzębie-Zdrój Station as part of this week’s #RailwayArchitecture series. This is one of the buildings designed for the Katowice–Ostrava railway line, a project commissioned by CPK.

#JASTRZĘBIE-ZDRÓJ CENTRUM STATION

The area planned for the Jastrzębie-Zdrój Centrum railway station was analyzed during a charette workshop in September 2023, with participation from city representatives. During these workshops, a shared vision for the station’s location and function was developed.

The project includes restoring the Jastrzębianka River valley, which currently runs underground. A bike path alongside the planned river park will allow easy access to the city’s spa area.

The station’s architecture follows simple geometric forms, serving as a neutral background that highlights the surrounding greenery and water. Large glass facades allow natural views to extend into the building. A key design feature is a pyramid-shaped staircase with a cascading water element, referencing the city’s spa heritage.

The station building is located beneath the platforms, with entrances on both sides of the railway tracks. A main passageway connects both entrances, with the ticket hall and waiting areas in the center. The main entrance is on the south side, facing a representative station plaza. The building also includes a restaurant area overlooking the plaza.

A platform for regional trains will be accessible via a footbridge from Północna Street, making transfers to nearby public transport stops much faster.

All visualizations presented on this page were created for the Katowice–Ostrava railway line project commissioned by CPK.
