Reconstruction of the railway line on the Kraków Płaszów – Podbory Skawińskie section
The implementation of the task titled “Preparation of design documentation and execution of construction works on the Kraków Płaszów – Podbory Skawińskie section as part of the project titled ‘Works on railway line No. 94 on the Kraków Płaszów – Skawina – Oświęcim section’ from km 1.925 to km 20.225 of railway line No. 94 and from km 6.500 to km 8.276 of line No. 603” was carried out under the “design and build” system on behalf of the General Contractor – Swietelsky Rail Polska Sp. z o.o.
The investor of the project was PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A.
The project was implemented from July 2017 to August 2022.


As part of the project, the following studies were comprehensively prepared:
- Surveying documentation
- Geotechnical and geological documentation,
- Multidisciplinary inventory in the scope necessary to prepare the design documentation,
- Multidisciplinary detailed concept of the proposed technical solutions,
- Pre-design documentation – Preliminary Design,
- Construction design,
- Detailed design,
- Traffic management plans,
- Designs for railway track subgrade reinforcement,
- As-built documentation,
Challenges posed by the project:
- Improvement of railway traffic safety, passenger safety, the safety of transported goods, and road traffic safety at railway crossings,
- Improvement of line capacity, frequency, connectivity, and punctuality of the services, as well as reduction of travel time,
- Increase in the accessibility of railway transport,
- Improvement of passenger information and information for carriers,
- Rationalization of operating and maintenance costs of the managed infrastructure and reduction of degradation,
- Ensuring the interoperability of the railway system and enabling non-discriminatory access to Polish railway infrastructure for operators from other countries,
- Reduction of the negative impact of transport on the environment,
- Adjustment of the track layout at Kraków Bonarka station to current traffic needs in connection with the construction of the Kraków Zabłocie – Kraków Krzemionki connection,
- Adjustment of the Podbory Skawińskie station to serve as the terminus of the Agglomeration Rapid Rail.
