In the third episode of our #RailwayArchitecture series, we are pleased to present the concept for Żory Północne railway station.

#Żory Północne Railway Station

Żory Północne railway station is planned in the northern part of the city, near the A1 highway exit. The area required the reconstruction of a congested road system, with a key element being a new street connecting Gliwickie Roundabout with Raciborska Street. The station will be located inside a triangular area formed by Rybnicka and Raciborska Streets and the newly designed road link.

The building is set against the backdrop of a relatively heavy viaduct that supports the tracks and platforms of the high-speed railway station. In contrast, the station building beneath the viaduct has a dynamic, free-flowing elliptical shape, rotated in relation to the structure above. This elliptical form is repeated in the surrounding landscaping elements.

Special attention was given to the greenery design. With an efficient irrigation system and carefully selected plant species, greenery will complement the station even under the viaduct.

Glass canopies allow sunlight to reach the building’s lower level, and large glazed facades create a varied appearance throughout different times of the day.

The color scheme and design elements are inspired by the theme of fire, which reflects the history of Żory and is often used in the city’s architectural details.

All visualizations presented on this page were created for the Katowice–Ostrava railway line project commissioned by CPK.
